Allgemeines: This is the easiest escape route off the REFUSE tree ledge that splits the left side of Cathedral Ledge into upper and lower walls. The long ramp rising above the ledge's right end gives two or three pitches of moderate, enjoyable, and well protected face climbing. Extremely popular - and usually crowded. History: Yale University climbers R. S. G. Hall, Walter Spofford, & Merrill apparently made the first ascent of this popular route in 1935. |

Route: 1. Face climb up the right-diagonalling ram (YDS 5.3; many variations possible) to a cozy belay stance on the right with two fixed pitons. 90', YDS 5.3 2. Climb a V groove for 30 feet (old peg), then continue more easily to a small tree ledge, Belay here, or finish up either the corner/crack on the left (YSD 5.6), or the exposed arete and finger crack (YSD 5.5) on the right. Both finishes reach a good ledge with a two piton anchor. 100', YDS 5.5 or 5.6 3. Walk off left, or climb any of several additional, short pitches to reach the tourist lookout on top of the cliff. The most popular finish takes an easy line up a flake and a short slab up the final outcrop to the tourist lookot. 45', YDS 5.4 |
